The relation between sleep and wound recovery

Nearly 50 % of elderly have insomnia every year and up to 30% of the population worldwide experience this problem. Some have chronic sleep issues for many years.

We know that sleep is undeniably a strong factor which influences recovery from an injury. Sleep deprivation increases a person's response to pain stimuli.

sleep deprivation

A study back in 2018 demonstrated that sleep restriction impairs systemic immune function and skin recovery.

They compared two groups (placebo vs experimental group). Both groups were wounded on the

forearm. The experimental group had their sleep restricted and the other had adequate sleep.

The end results were not shocking at all! Those that slept enough recovered in 4.2 days, whereas those

that slept less recovered in 5 days.

Results suggest that sleep is a definite factor for recovery and those who sleep adequately recover more efficiently!

Next time, we will introduce many tips to improve sleep!
